You will not regret it! For those trying to learn guitar, this may not be the best as it doesn’t feature many images and contains an almost overwhelming amount of information.

Lots of good chord and scale voicings for those of us that need quick reference. It’s perfect if you already have a background in music, and want to know more about the guitar.
I read it through years ago, but this is an essential reference for any guitarist. Overall, what can I say but that no guitar player, regardless of your experience should be without this definitive guidebook. Its uniquely devised learning program combines specially commissioned, step-by-step photographs with a chord dictionary containing over easy-to-follow fingerings, and clear, concise text. Read, highlight, and take notes, across web, tablet, and phone.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone, professionals and amateur to at least have a copy of this wonder book. Finally, at the back of the book is a fairly extensive chord dictionary with pictures of how each chord is fingered.

Not very adequate for learning how to play a guitar, as it has no exercises – it just lays down the theory without any kind of step-by-step exercises or progressive learning curve altough it does feature a great, complete and handy chord dictionary and charts but great as a reference book as it has very complete and varied information on guitar theory, equipment, guitar history and even includes small bios on guitar luminaries it’s somewhat crimminal that it does not ref Great reference book.
Guitarists play chords that take a staff and a half and two sharps and a flat to notate all the time. It doesn’t talk down to the reader, nor does it start with lame beginner exercises.
I purchased this edition instead of an earlier but, besides the cover, I find little difference. Thanks for telling us about the problem. A very good primer, if you will.

This book has been a godsend in that it very comprehensive and explains chords, scales, and music theory concepts in an easy to understand manner. It includes sections on how guitars are made, guitar innovators, maintenance, an exhaustive explanation on how music is constructed, and a complete chord dictionary.
Weirdly, I had no interest in computers back then.
